It was like a carnival in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, when the high and low, rich and poor, slim and fat stormed the town to pay their last respects to the late Politician, business magnate and philanthropist, Okakuro Charles Akporufuoma Obule who died on July 25th, 2023.
Government top functionaries, dignitaries and guests, who included His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Executive Governor, Delta State, the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, Chairman of the State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barr Kingsley Esiso, Executive Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Chief Eugene Inoaghan, Member Representing Sapele, Okpe & Ethiope West Local Government Areas on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Julius Egbedi, Senator Chief Ighoyota Amori, Hon Austine Ayemidejor, Hon Dcn Joseph Otirhue, Executive Chairman Okpe Local Government Area, Hon Isaiah Esiovwa, Hon Peter Eferurie Adjemiyotan, Delta Central All Progressive Congress, APC Chairman Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Hon Festus Pemu, Hon Ejiro Jamani, Okpe, Sapele & Uvwie Federal House of Representatives Member, Hon Etanabene Ben, Former House of Assembly Member Representing Sapele Constituency, Chief Felix Anirah, Chief John Nani, Chairman DESOPADEC, House of Assembly Member Sapele, Chief Perkins Umukoro, Sapele Stylish Leader Hon Richard Randy Omoghwigho Okotie, Engr Davidson Uvietowhado, Chief Dickson Omoraka, top government officials, clerics, elder statesmen and captains of industries took turns to eulogise the Philanthropist and one time Governorship and Senatorial aspirant as his remains were ferried to St Patrick Catholic church along Yoruba road in Sapele for the funeral service.
Reading the homily, Rev Father Christopher Ekabo who tagged the death a painful one said, "the death of the Philanthropist was a shocking news to all". He spoke of the mystery of death, reading from John 14 verse 1-6, he said man's final home is heaven and we are only on pilgrimage here, he admonished everyone to do good, so that when one dies he will be properly received up there.
He then read Obule's profile adding that in all he went through he was faithful to all, and all he had done in life, including his marriage and spiritual life and he was a contented man. He challenged the political class to always remember the family in all they do.
Speaking at the funeral service in church, the State Governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori described the late Obule as a good and a contented man "he was a homely man too, if it were to be others, he would have stayed in the White's man country, but he came back home and established businesses here" describing the late politician as a good man.
Also speaking, the chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon Eugene Inoaghan, eulogized Obule, "Chief Obule was the epitome of what it means to be an Okpe man, hard working, generous, and dedicated to bettering our community through his business ventures and charitable projects, he uplifted countless lives and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered as a leader who truly cared about the people, Sapele has lost one of it's finest." he added.
Hon Chief Julius Egbedi, described the late Erhi of Okpe as a man with exemplified big-hearted leadership. "Through his hospital and school, he provided opportunities that have empowered generations of Deltans. Even in difficult times, he never hesitated to support those in need. Chief was sincerely devoted to serving the people, and his legacy will live on in all who will continue the work he started."
Hon Joseph Otirhue, Chairman, Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Sapele stylish leader, Hon Richard Randy Omoghwigho Okotie remarked that the late Chief was a wise and discerning man. "He had a unique ability to understand any issue and cut to the heart of solutions. Through his astute mind and uncompromising integrity, he earned widespread respect. As a true son of Okpe land, Chief Obule knew that real progress comes from lifting up one's neighbors. He will be remembered for his good counsel and for always putting community first."
Hon Peter Eferurie Adjemiyotan, political son to the late icon, and Engr Davidson Uvietowhado described Chief Obule as a friendly leader. "He was indeed a father, quick to forgive, we will miss him for his fatherly love and advise", they said.
Other dignitaries that graced the church service, include the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in the State, Val Arenyenka, Hon Richard Ogirisen, Hon Nasiru Ado, Chief Aghogho Adibor, Chief Godwin Atose, Chief Austin Opubor, Chief Austin Atite and a host of other dignitaries.
