Flood Control: Sapele Local Government Council, Min. of Environment, DESOPADEC, DTHA inspects flood, earmark area to excavate.

In a bid to curb the problem of flood that has ravaged Sapele Local Government Area, famous timber town, the Executive Chairman Sapele Local Government Council, Chief Eugene Inoaghan has partner the Delta State Ministry of Environment, Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC to find lasting solutions to the challenges of flooding in Sapele.
Eugene Inoaghan stated this on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 when a team from the Ministry of Environment led by Mrs Francisca A. Atigan, Director of Sanitation & Waste Management, Engr Tony Okuwe, Executive Assistant, Projects, DESOPADEC, comrade Kingsley Iweka visited the flooded area.
Inspecting the various area, the team said the essence of inspection was to profer ways to combating the flood challenges in the local government.
Eugene Inoaghan requested the Ministry of Environment to profer long term solution to the flood challenges, because temporary solutions were not sustainable.
He said, "we are looking for lasting solution. Ministry of Environment and the interventionist agency, DESOPADEC are here, together, we are looking for ways at solving the issue of flood permanently. The local government cannot do it alone, hence we are working with the Ministry of Environment and DESOPADEC, to get the required result".
We got reports that some wards were affected, wards like ward 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9. So we decided to visit the affected areas in the various wards, places like Urhakpa, Newroad, Owumi road, Oduduru by Ferdison, Ogodo road, Palmer road, Ojolu, ILandrilo road, and Comprehensive road were visited to assess the damage of flood in these areas.
The Sapele council has began the excavation of refuse from the water ways in Urhakpa which has blocked the free flow of water.
During the inspection, they earmark some areas that will be excavated, and they are expected to commence soon, as it will help to control the flood. Areas were drainage would be constructed was also earmark during the inspection.
They promised to take temporary measures to immediately contain the situation and permanent measures like the construction of gutters, canals, drainage and other measures which has become necessary.
In the company of the Executive Chairman, Chief Eugene Inoaghan to show the team from the Ministry of Environment, DESOPADEC the flooded areas include Chief Perkins Umukoro, Representative of Sapele Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, (DTHA), Chief Julius Egbedi, Board Member Representing Sapele, Okpe and Ethiope West Local Government Areas on the Board of DESOPADEC, Chief Benson Okorodudu, Hon Festus Pemu, Hon Felix Ayemidejor, Hon Richard Ogirisen, Hon Stanley Kogoro, Hon Lucky Ajamikoko, Hon Nasiru Ado, Hon Henry Temisan, Hon Peter Eferurie Adjemiyotan and others too numerous to mention.
