Support Oborevwori's administration and don't see government as a business venture, Joe Omene tells politicians

June 12, 2023.

SPECIAL PRESS RELEASE ON POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT IN DELTA  STATE AND THE NEED FOR DELTANS TO KEY INTO THE NEW DAWN ERA OF ADVANCING DELTA STATE AGENDA & THE MORE MANDATE OF RT. HON. SHERIFF OBOREVWORI & SPECIAL COMMENDATION OF HIS  EXCELLENCY SEN. DR. IFEANYI OKOWA, IMMEDIATE PAST GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE ISSUED BY CHIEF JOE OMENE (JP, MPA, AMIE, MNIM, FHR), PRESENTED ON THE 12TH JUNE 2023.
I wish to seize the opportunity of  this  special  press release  to  speak on  issues  concerning political developments and happenings in Delta State as a critical  stakeholder  and  opinion leader in the state. There is no gain saying that indeed, this is a new era of its own and a new order of a new dawn going by the transition that has taken place by reason of a democratically elected governments in Nigeria and indeed Delta State in particular. As it is always, government is a continuum and today another personality has been sworn in as Governor of Delta State in the person of the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly as the Governor to superintend on the affairs of the state for the next four years.
He has taken over from His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, now former Governor of Delta State. Both personalities had served the state in their own capacities together. The two personalities understood the state and themselves and that was why they were able to work together cordially and amicably without rancor that could have impeded the successes achieved by the Okowa administration as Governor.Today  elections are  over and  tensions have simmer down but  some quarters in  the state who believe if it is not them it can never be others, are  trying  to create a gulf to undermine the current political leadership and order by  trying  to vilify the former Governor and cast aspersion on the  current  Governor  who is determined  to prove  his  worth and mettle.
I call on Deltans to allow His Excellency, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State to prove his worth and let the end justify the means in terms of Machiavelli.

The band wagons and political  racketeers whose stomachs are  never filled, who  sees government as a business centre, those who build special  house near the treasury  of the state, those who plant cronies in government strategic offices, those who walk, sleep and wake up in Government House corridors and take it as their  own warehouse should allow the new era leader work for  the  state. In this dispensation people, especially political commentators should tread carefully and criticize constructively if criticism is their hobby and that they should know that government or governance is not a tea party.

Those who sees freedom of speech and expression and weaponizes it for destructive purpose should know that one day, it could be their turn.It is on record that, elections were conducted in Delta State and out of  25 L.G.A Rt. Hon. Sherriff Oborevwori won twenty one L.G.A to defeat his main rival, Sen. Ovie Omo Agege, Deputy Senate President of  Nigeria. So Deltans voted for Sheriff Oborevwori to be their Governor as declared by INEC.

The fact that the Former Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa supported the current Governor to emerge as the Governor is not hidden in mystery. As it is in vogue everywhere even worldwide, during transitions departing leaders always have their preference and nobody has stopped and no law has out-lawed that inclination.

Therefore, it follows that the seed the departing leader(s) has put in place, he will surely play his role to make it grow and become fruitful. Nobody abandons his seeds excepts as it is the habit of so many Urhobo leaders. Former Governor Okowa has the right to be part a government he puts in place come rain come shine and nobody can stop that.  On the DESOPADEC issues, people should know or learn in between the lines that a departing government has the authority to take decisions, make decision, and preside over the affairs of the state until the very hour of the ritual of handing over is done.

Anything that a departing leader has to do, he has the authority to do it and can be done a minute to hand over including appointments, inauguration of boards such as DESOPADEC and others in the state. Therefore, Former Governor Okowa acted within the law and perfectly in order.  The board has fallen due by law to be constituted and inaugurated and that is exactly what Okowa did.Again the people that are in the board are not from Russia or Ukraine but Deltans across the DESOPADEC Areas so what is sickening the critics and cynicals.

On the naming of the Old Lagos Agbor expressway after Okowa by Governor Sheriff, is a policy decision and the use of discretionary powers of reward for State service and hard work to honor the Road Master and an achiever per excellence. In fact a Road Master needs a road to be named after him for immortalization. This happens also everywhere even globally. On the achievements of Former Governor Okowa, indeed I was personally stunned when I saw the Okowa administration compendium on his achievements. I use to be a vehement critic of Okowa policies but not his government. Yes I can say now that he was a great Governor and actually finished strong.

He finished strong on infrastructural development, empowerments, skills acquisition,  devolving  power to sub-ethnic  nation  in  the spirit of equity, grooming young politicians and so many monumental  achievements that space will not permit us to list, on one hand and  putting  a  government in place against all odds by defeating  the monsters and power thirsty war horses across the state. State power well utilized to the benefit of the people. Government is not God Almighty and is not infallible.

It is only God that is infallible that cannot make mistakes or have short-comings. Okowa has done great and deserves all the encomiums and more.I must say that Okowa is an unsung hero hidden by the wickedness of Delta State people. On the support for the Urhobo candidate, former Governor Okowa is a man. On the support given to the Urhobo ethnic nationality to produce the Governor of Delta State former Governor Okowa is a man with a large heart who accommodates all shade of life and a man who believes in a thing and pursue it to its logical conclusion. Reports initially suggested that he has support for the Ijaws to produce the next Governor but however as things turned out he wanted the Urhobo and indeed the Okpes to produce the Governor of Delta State in his time.If Okowa had supported another tribe like the Ijaw nation they would have used state power to floor the Urhobos and all the Urhobos will go home wounded   and shut up. What will they do to Okowa, absolutely nothing.

On the animadversion being heaped on Governor Sherriff Oborevwori, I must say that it is too early to attack the young man who destiny has smiled upon.  Out of several million Deltans it was him that was selected to fly the flag of his   political party, the PDP and he eventually won the elections.I say this without fear that all the PHD holders in Urhoboland should convert their pull him down “PHD” to please help direct their “PHD” in urhoboland into advancement and not destruction.Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has stated clearly that he will focus on the Warri Area in his administration in order to give a befitting status to one of the most popular cities in Nigeria where Europeans had encounter with the locals. Decades ago like Port Harcourt city, it was the Europeans that named the city Warri and it has remained in near ruins. But today the Governor in the person of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Of Delta State is rising up to the  occasion to transform  the area. What a powerful well starting intention. I praise him for this. The question is, since Sheriff made the statement has anybody among the adversaries come to own up and commend that great inaugural policy statement by praising him. As I conclude  this special  statement, I wish to call on all  Deltans to  give  peace a  chance and  those  trying  to  sow  the  seed of  discord  between Governor Sheriff  Oborevwori  and  Former Governor Okowa  should desist  from  those  antics  and  destructive tendencies. To all ethnic nationalities, majorities, minorities, sub-ethnic nations, non-tribes, resident in Delta State should queue behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in order for the state to be GREAT.For the Governor in charge, he should not listen to side talks and those cheap blackmailers seeking for relevance to be appointed into portfolios. That Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should avoid political portholes and leadership landmines laid by political enemies and hired hooligans masquerading as know it all good for nothing critics and social commentators. That Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should always consult with his immediate boss Former Governor Okowa and other well meaning and identifiable leaders genuinely committed to the greatness of Delta State. In conclusion therefore, I hereby pass a vote of commendation on the immediate past Governor, His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, CON, Former, Governor of Delta State and state further as follows by way of conclusion in reaffirming our earlier resolution on commendation passed on the Former Governor Okowa.

Thanks________________________________
