Joe Omene reacts to protest against Okowa, decries the absence of Federal and State Higher institution in Okpe land

The former President General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU and the Ejorofo of Mosogar Kingdom, in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Joe OMENE has question the motive behind the recent protest by Oil and gas communities in Delta State, asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, for allegedly misappropriating over N1tn oil derivation fund belonging to the state during his tenure.

Chief OMENE, while answering questions on the protest, led by Hon Mulade Sheriff expressed his concerns  behind the sudden attack on the former governor.
"I can't help but wonder about the motive behind this continuous attack on the person of the former governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Is there a deeper agenda at play? It appears that their real aim is to destabilize the new government, the People Democratic Party (PDP).

He highlighted the rotation of the governorship position among the three senatorial districts as a decision made by the PDP to promote equity and brotherhood, pointing out that similar allegations were made against Chief James Ibori, from Delta Central, and Governor Uduaghan, from Delta South, only to fade away once they left office.
He emphasized the need for documented evidence before rushing to judgment and condemned the call for Okowa's crucifixion without concrete proof of guilt, noting that the timing of the allegations against Okowa, following his tenure, seemed suspicious and improper.

He urged the EFCC to conduct their investigations and invite Okowa if there is valid evidence against him, emphasizing the importance of justice and fairness in dealing with the allegations.
Furthermore, Chief OMENE suggested that the situation might serve a dual purpose: targeting Okowa and sending a warning message to the current governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, stating that the intention might be to manipulate and control the political landscape, making it essential to allow the government to focus on governing without undue interference.

Chief OMENE also addressed the neglect of Okpe land in Delta State over the past sixteen years, emphasizing the absence of federal or state tertiary institutions in the region, which he considered a lack of representation for the ethnic group.

In conclusion, Chief OMENE  called for peace and urged those making the allegations to respect the principle of innocent until proven guilty. He emphasized the need to allow the new Governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwor to carry out his duties as a governor without unwarranted disruption.
