Guided by the visionary leadership of Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, the esteemed Rector of the institution, the event aimed to forge a harmonious and enriching learning environment for students, faculty, and the wider community.
The distinguished honor of delivering the inaugural lecture fell upon Simon Dumbiri Okota, a revered Chief Lecturer in the Department of Statistics within the School of Applied Sciences and Technology. Okota's captivating discourse, titled 'A Stochastic Programming Model to Minimize Cost Associated with Emergency Humanitarian Logistics in Flood Prone Regions,' held the audience spellbound with its profound insights.

During an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Chief Lecturer Okota shed light on the motivations behind his choice of subject, focusing on 'Flood Prone Regions.' He provided valuable recommendations to combat this pressing issue, stressing the grave consequences of recurring tragedies. Okota cited a distressing incident at Delta State University, Oleh Campus, where flooding disrupted the academic setting and encroached upon vital farmlands. Despite government efforts, the problem persisted, fueling Okota's exploration of mathematical Stochastic Programming as a viable solution to address uncertain scenarios. With unwavering confidence, Okota proclaimed that the implementation of this model would mend the ravaged land and assuage the prevailing crisis.

In an engaging conversation with Vanguard, Professor Ufuophu-Biri expressed his aspiration to foster an exemplar educational atmosphere within the institution. Reflecting on the inaugural lecture's success, Professor Ufuophu-Biri humbly remarked, "As an impartial observer, I cannot pass judgment on my own performance. However, having attended numerous inaugural lectures both domestically and internationally, I can confidently say that this one was exceptional, considering the attendance, content, and conciseness. The next lecture is just around the corner, within the next two months."

Acknowledging the vibrant tapestry of campus life within higher institutions, Professor Ufuophu-Biri recognized the multitude of activities that thrive, encompassing spirituality, social interactions, and academic pursuits. Striving for equilibrium, he outlined plans to organize a diverse array of events, including interactive public lectures and spiritual endeavors such as communal prayers. Adding a touch of excitement, he enthusiastically announced the presence of renowned comedians, including the beloved Gordons, who will grace the institution's entertainment segment, free of charge, commencing on August 10. "This initiative aims to uplift and engage our students, fostering an atmosphere of joy and intellectual growth," he declared with palpable enthusiasm.
