PRISON VISIT: BOZIMO GETS COMMENDATIONS FOR INTRODUCING , AMENDING ACJ LAW FOR JUSTICE DELIVERY

Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Isaiah Bozimo,has been commended for his holistic approach towards the administration of criminal justice Law through the introduction of several innovations as well as the amendment of the law for effective justice delivery.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) , Asaba Branch, Mr. Precious Nwadimuya made the commendaton at Ogwuashi-Uku while speaking with newsmen during the first quarterly prison visit 2023 by the State Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai.
Mr. Nwadimuya said that the new innovations had contributed immensely in accelerating the administration of criminal justice.
He stated that there was also a provision in the Administration of Criminal Justice Law for restorative justice where the victims of an offence and the offender were brought in a round table discussion to resolve their matter amicably.
He noted that the quarterly prison visit by the Chief Judge had tremendous impact not only to the inmates but the state at large.
The Asaba Branch NBA Chairman explained that the visit had continued to provide an opportunity for the review of the cases of the inmates especially those awaiting trial , adding that such visit usually put the stakeholders on their toes.
Mr. Nwadimuya said that during the prison visit the charges of those awaiting trials were prepared so that their cases could commence .
He lauded the Chief Judge for her regular visits to correctional facilities in the state, stressing that the initiative was aimed at ensuring that no inmate stayed in the prison more than the stipulated time for trials .
Also speaking, a State Counsel in the State Ministry of Justice, Mr Orioko Godwin Elo stated that the prison visit was a veritable platform for stakeholders to review the cases of the prisoners and ensure that their trials were as fast as possible so that justice for them and the state in general would be realised.
He said that the regular visits to prisons in the state would help to decongest the facilities.
Orioko, who described the innovative ideas of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Isaiah Bozimo as commendable, noted that the administration of criminal justice law initiated by Mr. Bozimo had brought so much benefits to the justice system.
