FERUK FOUNDATION HARPS ON IMPORTANCE OF TACKLING CORRUPTION

The need for collaborative efforts in tackling all forms of corruption in the society in order to make life more meaningful for every individual has been brought to the fore.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FERUK Humanitarian Foundation, Amb. Okoro Aghe Anthonia stated this in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State during a public seminar organized by the foundation with the theme: Redefining Humanitarian Intervention-Speaking the Truth to Ourselves
Amb. Okoro said that the seminar was designed to sensitise Deltans and other citizens of Nigeria on the effects of corruption and the benefits of abstaining from corruption.
She called on government at all levels and all individuals to embrace humanitarian services so that citizens especially the needy could be supported to live a better life, adding the activities of the organization cut across the grassroots .
Earlier in their lecture presentations, the founder of MODIBBO Peace Initiative, Dr. Longji Dambok and the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIRP), Delta State chapter, Mrs. Florence Nwabonwu identified humanitarian gesture as one of the things that make humanity to coexist.
While urging Nigerians to have empathy for one another and render assistance to the needy , frowned at the alarming rate of prostitution and smoking among the younger generation.
In his presentation on civil servants as an instrument in fighting corruption, an assistant director in the state Ministry of Finance, Mr. Jude Iduwe said that civil servants played pivotal role in formulating and implementing the policies government.
Mr. Iduwe stated that it was incumbent on every civil servant to guide the public office holders on the procedures accessing funds such that due process needed to be followed, stressing that civil servants should checkmate corruption in the system.
Mrs. Nwabonwu specifically charged women to believe in themselves , speak in one voice and harness their potentials just as she advocated for the empowerment of women .
Also speaking, a Banker and Humanitarian advocate, Dr. Ameer Lukeman Haruna,who harped on relevant tips with which to effect change in one's environment, said that volunteering spirit by individuals was important .
He noted that one should utilse one's skills and knowledge to the overall benefits of others, visit the sick in the hospital and make donations no matter how little as well as embark on environmental sustainability through the planting of trees in view of climate change.
