OKOWA GETS COMMENDATIONS FOR PROMOTING , SUPPORTING SPORTS IN DELTA

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has been lauded for his administration's continued efforts in promoting and supporting several sports activities such as the Zenith Principals cup, the Headmasters cup and school sports festival in the state.
The Principal of Zappa Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, Ogbokor Roseline made the commendaton in Asaba during her school's 7th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition which was chaired by a Director in Ministry of Lands and Survey, Rev. Steve Edremoda.
She also said that the State Government had recorded monumental achievements in its commitment to drive the education system in the state to envision height.
Ogbokor said that sports was an integral part of formal education, adding that sporting activities were immense intellectual development, moral and social values.
She said that the role of sports in schools with reference to sports development cannot be over-emphasised, stressing that sports helps in skill acquisition, psychological development and emotional wellness.
Ogbokor, who stated that it was important for children to engage and channel their youthful energies positively to enhance their physical and intellectual development, said that it was a tool for developing healthy competition , mutual understanding and unity .
She listed the immediate needs of the school to include school band , more security men , a ceremonial uniform for outing especially for Children's Day and Independence Day celebration as well as garvanised room where documents, records statistics could be kept.
The Principal also thanked the teachers for their ceaseless committed in making the 7th annual inter house sports competition to be successful.
Earlier in her remarks, the pioneer Principal of Zappa Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, Mrs. Okwuone Patience Nkechi said that sports helps to develop individuals mentally, physically, emotionally and socially.
Mrs. Okwuone, who is a retired principal and now the proprietress of Magnificent Bethel International School stressed the need to catch them young and stated that the children should continue to train in order for them to be more effective in sporting activities.
She noted it was in recognition of the importance of sports that the State Government made sports compulsory at all levels of education, adding that the State Government had performed exceedingly well in the education sector.
The event was attended by the Chief Inspector of Education (CIE) in charge of Oshimili South, Djoma Emiliana and some principals including the Principal of Zappa Basic Secondary School, Comr. Godson Opone , the Principal of Niger Mixed Secondary School, Mr . Aseyeni Benjamin and the Vice Principal , Special Duties,, Government Model Secondary School, Asaba who represented the Principal of the school, Dr. Mrs. Obiajulu Eboka among other dignitaries.
