EBOKA UNDERSCORES IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS IN PHYSICAL, MENTAL, INTELLECTUAL WELLBEING OF CHILDREN

The Principal of Government Model Secondary School, Asaba, Dr. Mrs. Obiajulu Eboka has underscored the Importance of the phenomena role of sports in the development of the children"s physical, mental and intellect wellbeing.
Dr. Mrs. Eboka, who stated this in Asaba during the 6th Annual Inter-House Sports/Athletics Competition, said that sports was critical in promoting global unity, togetherness as well as a disciple that would contribute in building up self confidence and self esteem among children.
She stated that the school inter house sports competition had always created an enabling platform for healthy competition among students , spirit of sportsmanship and discipline as well as assist them in exploring their strength and talents
Dr. Mrs. Eboka , who noted that students active participation in sporting activities had the ability to reduce their engagement in negative vices to a great extent, stressing that the conduct of the competition was in line with the vision of the school to encourage the growth and development of talents and skills through initiatiing co-curricular activities.
The Principal said that the state government under the leadership of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa had continued to promote and support sports in the state through the Local Government Games, the Zenith Principals' cup and the Headmasters' cup competitions.
While calling on good spirited individuals and corporate organisations to partner with the government to provide basic sports facilities in the school, Dr. Mrs. Eboka , stated that there was insufficient sports equipment in the school as a result of the large number of students in the school.
In their separate remarks, the Principal of Zappa Basic Secondary School, Mr. Godson Opone and a Principal Education Officer in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Celestine Oseji who represented the Director of Schools, Mrs. Kehinde Oderhowho described sports as part of life and a recreational activity .
Mr. Opone , specifically lauded the State Governor for his administration's support to support development in secondary schools, noting that the benefits of sports were enormous.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ekanem Omo said that engagement in sporting activities had correlated with health, adding that the school was known for its academic and sporting activities.
Dr. Omo stated that regular exercise was important for the health of every individual and enhance team spirit among children, adding that consistent exercise had the ability to reduce high blood pressure.
Dignitaries present included former Head of Service (HOS) of the state, Sir Okey Ofili , the Chief Inspector of Education in charge of Oshimili South, Djoma Emiliana and the representative of Hon. Justice Maidoh, who is the patron of green house, Mr. Albert Imuero among others patrons and school principals.
