*Sapele Okpe Community, Itsekiris Celebrates Carnival Like Independence Day*

The Chairman of Sapele Okpe Community, Chief Onoriode Temiagin has stressed the need for peace and unity of purpose among all residents of Sapele just as the Itsekiris and the Sapele Okpe marked their Independence day with carnival like celebration.

Temiagin said unity and peace was necessary among residents in the community in order to achieve the town's target of development.
  The Community chairman who stated this on Saturday October 1st, 2022 in Sapele while briefing Journalists during the Sapele Okpe Youth day celebration held at the community hall also hailed the peaceful conduct of the celebration bearing in mind, the tension it has generated in the past three days.
  "We must thank God for all we are witnessing today bearing in mind events of the last two days. We must continue to embrace peace and unity as there is no other way to live together.
The Itsekiris are our brothers, we have inter-married over the years, so all these unnecessary tension is not needed. We need the Itsekiris, just as they need us''

Before the Independence day celebration, the leaders of Sapele Okpe Community and the Itsekiris in Sapele was said to have brokered a peace meeting on Friday September 30th, 2022 where it was agreed that the celebrations would go on simultaneously and peacefully.
Meanwhile former Chairman of Sapele Local Government council, Hon Godwin Atose has commended the efforts both parties put in place to ensure that the tension was doused and peace was achieved.
 Atose who was reported to have worked day and night, hailed the peace initiative adding there was no alternative to peace and unity since both tribes not only have intermarried, they have lived together for long.

Hon Atose said no meaningful development could take place in a crisis ridden environment and seriously advised against people taking laws into their hands and commended the people for their peaceful disposition in going about the celebration.

"We thank God for this, we must learn to embrace peace and go on with what we are always known for" Atose said.

  Chief Eugene Inoaghan, on his part sued for peace and gave assurance that the local government council would do its best to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order hyping on the peaceful relationships that the residents have enjoyed over the years.

Dignatries who were on ground to witness the carnival Independence day celebration include Chief Ede Dafinone, Chief Godwin Dadi, Chief Cyril Ogodo, Prince Joseph Atseyinku, Chief Moses Babuba Abeke, Hon Moses Ogodo, Chief Omolubi Newuwumi, Misan Adams, Onoriode Ogodo and a host of other dignatries.
