Goodluck Oyiborhoro has won the table tennis sport tournament organized by Comrade Ejiro Odebala.
The table tennis sport tournament which was held at Sapele Athletic Club (SAC) on October 1st, 2022 to mark the Independence day celebration saw participants from various communities in Sapele local government area of Delta State who took part in the competition.
Goodluck Oyiborhoro emerge as winner and carter home the first prize of 30,000 naira after defeating Precious Aluya in the table tennis tournament game.
Speaking to newsmen, Comrade Ejiro Odebala organiser of the tournament and Captain of the table tennis section at the Sapele Athletic Club said that the tournament was organized to mark the Independence day celebration. This is not the first tournament, it is a yearly program and we will continue to organize sport competition were the youths will be given the opportunity to participate, although the prizes are not much, but I believe that by next year the take home will be better, he said.
Prince Etchie Ekwejunor Vice President of Sapele Athletic Club (SAC) said that; "SAC is a sport and social club where people come for relaxation. Today's tournament was done to publicize the club to the world and to inform the public that there is a table tennis session in the club. He urge youths to become members of the club to enable them upgrade the table tennis session of the club, while congratulating the winner of the table tennis sport for his skill.
Sport secretary of the Sapele Athletic Club Engr Edirin Fregene who spoke in the vein commended the youths for turning up in their numbers and participating in the sport tournament. In continuation, he said that; "we are showcasing the sport session of the club and I want to say that this competition will continue from year to year, we have other sporting activities like golf, swimming, badmilton, and the keep fit session.
We also have the house of common games like ludo, scrabble, chess etc, he added.
Winner of the first prize for the table tennis sport tournament Goodluck Oyiborhoro said that his emergence as winner was as a result of God's favor and grace, saying that he didn't think that he was going to emerge as the winner. I thank the organizers of the program and all those who participated in the sport tournament,he said.
Honourable Justice Obaro Odebala, one of the judges who was on ground to witness the tournament, said that; the table tennis sport tournament is a very good one and it was quite entertaining, I will encourage the organizer to continue and I want to encourage those who participated and did not win today to put in their, so that they can emerge as winners in the next competent, while commending the winner of the sport game for putting in his best.
Dignatries who were on ground to witness the sport tournament include Chief Felix Anirah Member Representing Sapele Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Rotarian Tony Uba, Chief Ovigwue Egbonoje, Mr Amami Mitchell, Elder Steve Omare and a host of other dignatries.
Those who participated in the table tennis sport tournament include Precious Aluya and Ade Ajayi who took second and third positions respectively.
Others are Jude Isaac, Lucky Laboard, Edafe Odji, Gabriel Akerenuma, Kingsley Iheme, Billion Ijure, John Honour, Vincent Akidolor, Adolphus Ajimosun, Elvis Ogboye, Omor Uzomu, Maro Ofor, Pammy, Tosin and Honourable Abraham.
