*Demands Immediate Release of Obomine Ekariko*
Youths of Sapele Okpe Community in Sapele local government area of Delta State took to the street on Thursday September 29th, 2022 to protest the arrest of its Youth President Mr Obomine Ekariko.
As early as 6am the youths had already started their demonstration, holding various placards with different inscription to draw the attention of the state government and express their displeasure over the arrest of their youth president.
The community chairman, Chief Onoride Temiagin, while reacting to the arrest said that issue of land within tribes has nothing to do with it's youth president, hence he is demanding for the immediate release of Obomine Ekariko.
Speaking further, Chief Onoriode Temiagin said that the land named by settlers as Arun-owun is actually known as Unumerin, and from henceforth should be called by its original name Unumerin.
In continuation, Onoriode Temiagin said that the planned October 1st, 2022 cultural celebration by the Itsekiri should be suspended with immediate effect.
The Divisional Police Officer CSP Harrison Nwabuisi and his team were on ground to maintain peace and ensure that no life was lost.
Expressing their grievances, one of the youths who gave his name as Obaro Akpomiedaye said; we want peace in Sapele, we want the release of our Youth President, we are tired of the continuous intimidation, and we are appealing to the Government to put a stop to this continuous intimidation, he said.
