Councilors in Sapele local government area of Delta State has reiterated that they use will used funds awarded for constituency project in their wards judiciously.

Rt Hon Churchill Ayomanor Councilor representing ward four and leader of the legislative arm while addressing journalist on Monday September 26th, 2022 during a media interactive session said that the responsibilities of the Councilors are enormous and that the councillors are currently doing their best to ensure that the people who they represent receive the dividends of democracy at the grass root level.

In my first year as Councilor, I sank a borehole in my ward to ameliorate the suffering of my people and to ensure that they get clean drinking water to avoid cholera. I have some persons in my payroll that I assist with little pocket money on a monthly basis and I am currently training over 25 persons in different skill acquisition program such as hair dressing, fashion & design, barbing, weldering & make up, he said.

Constituency project is in our budget of hope 2022 and we ought to be given the money to enable us carry out our constituency projects. It would n't be out of place if the chairman decides to approve money for constituency project for his Councilors. I also want to state categorically that if money for constituency project is approved, it will be carried out by all councillors and it will be commissioned by the council chairman and leaders of the party. It is not going to be a back door project, it will be visible to all and we will be remembered for it, he said.

In continuation, Hon Ayomanor said that as Councilors, they were entitled to a monthly imprest which is usually used to run their office on a daily basis.

Speaking further, Hon Churchill Ayomanor described Councilors as media friendly, while noting that what transpired between the PDP media aide and Councilors was a little misunderstanding which has been resolved.

Hon Richard Ogirien, Councilor representing the people of ward one said that as a Councilor in the 6th Assembly, he executed a Constituency project by linking roads and paying enrollment fees for primary six pupils to enable them participate in the first school leaving certificate examination and as a sitting Councilor in the 7th Assembly he also intends to execute another constituency project by sinking a borehole at the Police Barack to enable residents of the area get ascess to clean and portable drinking water and he will supervise it to finish.

He further went on to say that salaries for Councilor are not tailored for sharing, but because of the good nature of Councilors, they give assistance to those in need and that takes up to 40% of their basis salary for every month.

Hon Nasiru Ado Councilor representing the people of ward six while reacting to an online publication by some media Interlopers Duke Lucky Hills & Oghenemaro Arierhi said that ; "what transpired between Councilors and the PDP media aide was as a result of misunderstanding and that they are not indebted to any media personnel". Continuing, Hon Nasiru said that it was absurd to think that a sitting Councilor in Sapele local government area will be given money to execute a project and the Councilor will do otherwise. In his words; "sincerely, I can say that no Councilor in Sapele local government area will be given money to execute a Constituency project and he will go and sleep in his house. There will be a monitoring team from the council, the council engineer, the media team, all these people put together will ensure that the project is carried out judiciously. If we execute a project, it will be attached to our name, as Councilors of the 7th Assembly we want to make a difference, I want a situation that after I leave office, someone will be able to say that project was done by Hon Nasiru Ado, he said.

Another Councilor representing ward 19 by name Hon Peter Eferurie Adjemiyontan who spoke in the same vein said; some persons are ingrate and no matter how much you give to them, they will still not appreciate. I have assisted over ten persons in my ward to pay school fees just for this term alone, tomorrow they will still say that I have not done anything, but that will not stop me from assisting in my own little way. I will want to appeal to the chairman of Sapele local government area Chief Eugene Inoaghan to make funds available to us for our constituency project. The issue that if money is given to Councilors, they will not execute projects can not come to play, we have Journalist on ground to ensure that we execute the project as soon as funds are released to us. We have the executive arm as well, that will ensure that constituency projects are executed by Councilors once the funds are made available, he said.
