Sapele: Inoaghan Flags Off Distribution Of Free Insecticide Treated Nets For Residents
The Chairman of Sapele local government area Chief Eugene Inoaghan has flagged off the distribution of free mosquito nets on Thursday June 2nd, 2022 at the Sapele council secretariat.
The Chairman, who was ably represented by his wife Mrs Elizabeth Inoaghan at the flag off ceremony mentioned that malaria constituted a huge burden on the health situation of the country.
I am delighted to be a Net Advocate in Sapele local government area, and I call on all residents to make good use of the mosquito nets that will be made available to each house hold within the next few days.
Malaria is the highest cause of hospital attendance, absenteeism at work, schools, farms and market. No doubt, sleeping inside the insecticide treated nets every night is a sure way of protecting our families from the mosquitoes that spread malaria, he added.
Again, "this mosquito net distribution process is expected to increase awareness of Sapele residents on the appropriate knowledge, attitude, and skills in preventing malaria caused by mosquito bites", he said.
Earlier on Dr ( Mrs) Oghroro Mercy Executive Secretary/Medical Officer of Health had said that the essence of the net was to reduce the spread of malaria, while noting that the State government has provided free treatment for malaria sickness as well as malaria drugs for pregnant women and children between the 0-5 years.
Mrs Chughiefe Pauline, LGA Health Educator sensitized the public on the use of the mosquito net. Spread net under a shade for atleast 24 hours, when nets are dirty, wash with mild soap. The nets should not be used for more than 3 years she stated.
Mr Ufuoma Abache co- ordinator Sapele (MSH) Management for Science Health who spoke in the same vein said that the MSH in partnership with the State Primary Education Board, Delta State has decided to distribute 159,700 nets in Sapele.
In continuation, she said that the distribution will commence from Thursday June 2nd, 2022 to MondayJune 13th, 2022 to enable them cover the eleven wards in the local government area.
She further said that members of her team will be going from one house to another to distribute the mosquito nets to ensure that every family has an insecticide net. She appealed to residents of Sapele to cooperate with those that have been saddled with the responsibility to distribute the net by giving them the necessary information that will facilitate the distribution process, while noting that a revisit card with mobile number will be placed at houses whose occupants were not at home to enable them call the team members to bring the mosquito nets for them.
I am very optimistic that every house hold within the local government will get, because we have put in the modalities to reach out to them, she added.
